Quick Makeup Tips For Everday

Posted by 88dblifestyle on July 8, 2009

Applying makeup on your face needn’t be a chore with these helpful and practical tips• If you’ve applied too much blusher, simply dust over with loose or pressed powder until the colour is subdued.

• When applying mascara, always keep a cotton swab handy. It’s perfect for removing any smudge.

• Your eyes and lips should always be made up but they should never compete for attention. Always remember that a heavy, smoky eye calls for a neutral lip; likewise, a bright red or dark lipstick works best with a neutral eye.

• To keep lipstick off your teeth, once your have applied lipstick, put your index finger into your mouth and pull it out. The extra lipstick will come off on your finger.

• If you’re making a quick change from day to night makeup, a coat of lip gloss over your lipstick will give you a glossy evening finish.

• When applying makeup, always apply in a dabbing motion. Never rub as this removes the product underneath.

• Having sharp pencils will not only give you more accurate application, but it is more hygienic, especially if you wear contact lenses. Get in the habit of giving your pencils a quick sharpen after use and store in the fridge.

How To Wear Mineral Makeup

Posted by 88dblifestyle on July 4, 2008

Mineral cosmetics herald a new chapter in makeup − a look that is lighter and more natural. Here, Revlon’s Bree Sharp gives us the lowdown on the modern way of wearing makeup
By Sabrina Ong

THE latest trend in the cosmetic industry is mineral cosmetics, which have become vastly popular not just abroad but in Singapore as well. That’s because, unlike traditional make-up that’s made of chemicals, preservatives, fragrance and dyes, mineral cosmetics are natural and go well on almost all skin types.

Among the benefits of mineral cosmetics: They provide a smooth, flawless finish. They are perfect for sensitive and acne-prone skin. They are ideal for use post-cosmetic surgery. It is also said that mineral cosmetics don’t so much as cover up flaws but enhance your features. In other words, mineral cosmetics don’t give you a fake, cakey look.

Revlon, one of the world’s most iconic cosmetic brands, recently launched its line of mineral cosmetics in Singapore. We caught up with Bree Sharp, senior trainer for the company, to explain to us the advantages and benefits of using mineral cosmetics, as well as share tips on how to use makeup.

5 Ways To Dress Slimmer

Posted by 88dblifestyle on July 4, 2008

Wear whatever you like, just make sure it fits your body shape
By Sabrina Ong

IN TODAY’S “world of fashion” anything goes! You no longer need to follow the crowd to belong – after all, fashion trends inspire constant evolution. But what is crucial is that you pick out the right clothes that fit your body shape.

“It is all about scale and proportion,” says Guinevere Ho, a U.K. Certified Image Consultant and Associate Trainer with First Impressions Image International (Singapore) and one of the three speakers at 88DB City Events‘ “A Brand New You” seminar in July.

“Pay attention to the designs, patterns in clothes, accessories and lines. They should be correctly scaled. A fuller figure person in small prints will only accentuate [her shape]. Likewise, a petite frame can be overpowered by large, bold prints. Scale is important and the whole silhouette should be well proportioned.”

Women want to look slimmer, most of the time at least. Perhaps it is because we know that there will be an event where we know photographs will be taken and don’t want the extra ten camera-pounds to show.

So, the question now is: “How can you pick out clothes that make you look slimmer?”

Fashion, Painted

Balinese artist Ni Nyoman Sani paints women garbed in fashionable dresses in her latest exhibition at CurioCity Gallery

WE LOVE fashion and art. In fact, we love fashion and art so much that we practically fainted at the opening of Ni Nyoman Sani’s exhibit at CurioCity Gallery along Bencoolen Street where she showed over 10 works, mostly in huge canvasses, of women dressed in fabulous clothings they look like they just stepped out of the pages of Vogue magazine.

“I get my inspiration from magazines and Fashion TV,” Sani, in her 30s, whispered to us as she related how she’s always loved to paint images of women, though it’s the first time she’s gone deep into fashionistas.

Zouk’s Fashionable Flea & Easy

Posted by 88dblifestyle on May 6, 2008

Caution: The cheap buys featured below may cause extreme jealousy
by Mavis Ang

Zouk’s quarterly flea market “Flea & Easy” took a different spin last Sunday with a fashion elite edition (along with Singapore Fashion Festival ‘08), where all the stall vendors belonged to the fashion industry. Amongst which are stalls owned by Cleo, Harper’s Bazaar, Channel 8 actor Chen Han Wei, modelactress Jade Seah, and radio DJs Shan Wee and Rosalyn Lee.

Within an hour, Zouk was packed with usually glamourous fashionistas jostling and squeezing their way through the crowd. A small queue gradually formed at the entrance as people stopped to look at stalls, holding up traffic behind them. After straining our necks and grumbling, my companion and I managed to step into the flea market, only to be stunned by the sight before us.
